Question of the Day

I guess in Colorado, once a body has been embalmed, it can be transported by anyone who signs the right forms. I have a few thoughts about transporting a corpse, but I'm curious to know what you all think...

If you had a close family member die a few hours away from where they are to buried, and the hospital is willing to let you sign the papers for transportation once you have the body embalmed; would you chose to transport the body, or let the hospital deliver to it to the funeral home for you? To add to this, you don't have to have a coffin.

Weekend at Bernie's anyone?

I'd like to note that this does confirm a few more things in my mind about some people in my life.

OMG.....NOOOOO! Ick.

Besides the icky, I would think that the emotional state you would be in would be a safety issue for driving.

EWWWWW!

No way! But, I can definitely see that if money were an issue, driving the deceased yourself would be a great cost saver. But I still woudln't be able to do it.

I can understand the cost, but it really isn't THAT much!

AJ - that is exactly what Nate and I said - what if there was an accident? Emotionally is that the safest thing to do?

UHM......I wouldn't drive that car!! I could defiantly see my husband's family doing something like that!! Oh my.....I wouldn't do that, I would have the hospital do all the transportation stuff.

How does one even position an embalmed body in a car? Sitting up in the passenger seat? Lying across the back seat?

Um, I'd let the hospital do the delivering.

Yikes! I would not do it either. Heck I already have nightmares about dead people. My uncle brought my great uncle in the back of his truck in a coffin to the UP to be buried from Milwaukee. Hecter spent the night in our yard in a coffin. Thank god this was while I was in college. That would creep me out. My mom still jokes about Hecter spending the night in the yard.
